5 Staffordshire Walks Worth Planning Your Weekend Around this Spring
Spring has (finally) arrived in Staffordshire, which means longer evenings, brighter mornings and that familiar urge to spend more time outside.

From peaceful lakeside loops to the Peak District ridges, the county is full of stunning areas to walk - the kind where you can catch up with your girl-friends, listen to a podcast, or simply romanticise your Sunday morning with an iced matcha latte in hand.
If you're looking for things to do in Staffordshire, these five scenic routes are some of the most wholesome ways to spend a weekend.
Lakeside Walking at Chasewater Country Park

Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy
If your ideal Staffordshire walk involves minimal effort and maximum wildlife, Chasewater Country Park is the perfect choice.
The circular path wraps around the lake, moving between wide gravel paths, woodland trails and open waterside views. It's scenic and full of nature — swans drifting across the water, deer grazing nearby, cows in surrounding fields and plenty of friendly pooches along the way.
Why it's worth the trip
A small coffee truck near the start sells iced lattes, ice cream and dog biscuits — the perfect coffee stop to take around the loop or enjoy as a reward once you've finished.
The Roaches & Lud's Church

Distance: 6.75 miles
Difficulty: Challenging
For those days when you want a walk that feels like an actual adventure, this is the one.
The route climbs up onto The Roaches ridge, where you’ll walk across rugged rock paths with panoramic Peak District views stretching for miles.
Later, the trail leads into Forest Wood and the hidden rock corridor of Lud’s Church, a deep moss-covered chasm that feels almost mystical.
What makes it special?
Walking through Lud’s Church feels like stepping into another world — a narrow green gorge carved between towering rock walls.
The Railway Greenway Walk

Location: Lichfield / Brownhills
Distance: 4 miles / 6.5km
Difficulty: Easy
This route follows a former railway line turned green corridor, making it one of the most peaceful and accessible walks in the area.
The path is flat, compact and gently graded, meaning it’s perfect for walking, running or cycling while enjoying the surrounding woodland and wildlife.
What makes it special?
You can finish the walk back in Lichfield and head straight to a pub nearby for a well-earned latte or Sunday lunch.
The Stepping Stones

Location: Cannock Chase
Distance: 6.75 miles
Difficulty: Moderate
This walk takes you through heathland and woodland into the beautiful Sherbrook Valley, one of the most scenic spots in Cannock Chase.
The path winds downhill through open landscape before reaching the highlight of the walk — crossing Sher Brook via the famous stepping stones.
What makes it special:
The valley feels completely peaceful and removed from everyday life, making it perfect for slower walks and picnic stops.
The Wildflower Walk

Location: Park Hall Country Park, Stoke-on-Trent
Distance: 1.5 Miles
Difficulty: Easy
This shorter route is ideal for a slow Sunday stroll.
The trail climbs gently through the park towards Ford Hill, where you’ll find sweeping countryside views and open skies.
What makes it special
In spring and early summer the wildflower meadows burst into colour, making it one of the most photogenic walks locally.
Consider this your sign to romanticise your weekend plans.
An iced latte, good company, muddy boots and a walk somewhere beautiful — Staffordshire has plenty of places to make it happen.
